“The foundation of Unity is as an educational movement. Through the study of the Laws of Truth we learn to apply them so that they will dissolve our adverse beliefs and conditions and enable us to life a life of 'practical spirituality'. In other words, we examine the teachings of Jesus and other great teachers and learn how to use them in our daily lives.”

Michael E. Small
Associate Minister – Pastoral Care | Peer Support Facilitator
Michael E. Small serves as Associate Minister for Pastoral Care,
providing compassionate spiritual and pastoral support to individuals
navigating life's challenges, transitions, grief, recovery,
relationships, and personal growth.
His approach is grounded in listening, presence, compassion,
spirituality, and the belief that people do not need to be "fixed."
Sometimes what we need most is someone willing to sit beside us,
listen without judgment, and help us reconnect with our own strength,
wisdom, and hope.
Michael also facilitates nonclinical peer-support groups, drawing upon
lived experience, peer-support principles, and community connection.
These groups provide a safe and supportive environment for people to
share experiences, encourage one another, and discover resources and
pathways toward greater well-being.
Peer support is not psychotherapy or clinical counseling. Michael does
not diagnose or treat mental-health or substance-use disorders through
his pastoral or peer-support work. When an individual's needs extend
beyond the scope of pastoral care or peer support, he encourages and
assists with connection to appropriately qualified professional and
community resources.
Michael is an License Substance Abuse Associate (LSAA) which is
credential in New Mexico. His LSAA credential is separate from his
ministerial and peer-support roles, and he does not provide clinical
substance-use counseling through his pastoral-care or peer-support
ministry.
Glenda grew up in Unity. When she was five, her family began attending Unity Temple in Detroit, Michigan. When the family moved to Albuquerque in 1959, they continued with what was then called Christ Unity. Over the years she participated in Youth of Unity and was a YFM teacher. After retiring from a family business in 2017, she was looking for a new career opportunity and responded to an ad for Unity Spiritual Center Albuquerque. It seemed like a perfect fit. She views the role of Office Manager as one of facilitating and collaborating with staff, congregants and others to help make Unity Spiritual Center the best possible place to be.
John Vandermay has built our Audio Visual Lighting and Media program and team from the ground up. He continues to uplevel live streaming and overall presentation for our services and events.

In addition to volunteering with our teens, Barbara is a licensed clinical social worker and has her own therapy private practice working with teens, adults, and volunteers at her local elementary school.
